Yes, some Dallas-Fort Worth farmers markets stay open through winter, but the list is much shorter than it is in spring. Fourteen of the 57 markets in this directory run year-round, a handful more hold winter-specific market days, and everything else is closed. December is still a busy month. January and February are the thinnest weeks of the year.
Here is what actually happens to the market calendar as it gets cold.
## December is not really the quiet month
Most of the region's seasonal markets run all the way to the third weekend of December before they stop. Coppell, Denton Community Market, White Rock, Fair Park, Tietze Park and Duncan Switch Street Market all carry into late December. Grand Prairie runs into the first half of December, and Lake Worth and Saginaw both list December as their closing month.
Several markets that are otherwise closed in winter also hold a single December event. Keller runs three Christmas markets in December. Mansfield Farm & Cottage Market closes its main season in November and holds a December pop-up. Saint Michael's Farmers Market in Dallas, which ends its regular season around Labor Day, holds a Holiday Market on the second Saturday of December at Klyde Warren Park, which is a different location from its usual one.
So if your mental model is that markets shut down for the holidays, it is backwards. They shut down after the holidays.
## January and February are the real winter
Once the December dates are done, the calendar thins out hard. What is left falls into two groups.
**The year-round markets, which simply keep going.** Dallas Farmers Market (The Shed) runs both weekend days. The Clearfork Farmers Market in Fort Worth keeps its Saturday but shortens to 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in winter. The Stockyards Farmers Market (artisan market) runs Saturday and Sunday. Frisco Fresh Market runs both weekend days. Farmers Market of Grapevine is open daily. McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square stays open but pushes its opening from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM January through March. Cowtown Farmers Market in White Settlement, Carrollton Artisans Market, Richardson, Mabank, which extends to 2:00 PM November through February, and Wylie Urban Farm & Market all continue. Monthly year-round options are Sachse on the second Saturday and Fort Worth Community Market on the second Sunday.
**The markets that shift to a reduced winter schedule.** These are the ones people miss, because they are technically closed and technically open at the same time.
- Coppell Farmers Market drops from weekly to second and fourth Saturdays only for January, February and March, then returns to weekly in April - Denton Community Market holds a limited winter market on all January Saturdays and two Saturdays in February, at a different address on East McKinney Street, so confirm the location before you drive - Keller Farmers Market holds a short winter market with a couple of January dates before its main season starts in mid March - Burleson Farmers Market drops from weekly to monthly from November through February
## When everything comes back
Early March is the turn. White Rock, Fair Park, Denton at its regular location, Azle, Burleson, Mabank's new season, Crowley Market on Main, Downtown Mesquite, Saginaw and Downtown Arlington all open in March, with Keller starting mid month. April brings Grand Prairie, Bluebonnet Market in Ennis, Lucas, Midlothian, Grapevine Farmers & Artisans and Lake Worth. By May the calendar is essentially full again.
## Two honest cautions
Winter is when listings go stale fastest, because a market that is closed has no reason to update anything. Small markets also cancel single dates for weather, and that cancellation usually appears only on a social post. A market's own page is the only reliable source for whether it is running on a given cold Saturday.
Two entries in this directory carry unresolved winter questions. Frisco Rotary Farmers Market is listed as year-round on its own site while another source gives its season as April through December. Watauga Farmers Market has no first-hand confirmation of its schedule at all. We would rather flag both than fill the gap with a guess.
