Friday Night and Evening Farmers Markets in DFW

Four markets in our directory have Friday hours. Two are true evening markets that open at 6:00 PM: the Celina Friday Night Market and the Moonlight Market on W. Houston in Sherman. The other two are daytime markets whose Friday hours run late enough to catch after work: the Farmers Market of Grapevine is open Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and the Wylie Urban Farm & Market is open Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

## The four Friday markets

**Celina Friday Night Market.** Friday, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the first Friday of the month, March through November. One date a month, nine months a year, so the date matters more than the day.

**Moonlight Market on W. Houston, Sherman.** Friday, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the second and fourth Friday, April through November. Our listing also notes a second location on the Grayson County Courthouse lawn running August through November on the second and last Friday of those months. Check the market's own page before you pick a location.

**Farmers Market of Grapevine.** Open daily and year round, with Friday hours of 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It is also open Saturday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. If you want a Friday market that is reliably open, this is the one that asks the least of your calendar. See the other Grapevine markets for the Saturday-only option.

**Wylie Urban Farm & Market.** A year-round farm store, open Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

## Night markets on other evenings

Friday is not the only evening option. Several markets run after dark on other days.

The Stockyards Night Market in Fort Worth runs Saturday evening, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, on the third Saturday. The Funky Foundry Market, also in Fort Worth, is a monthly evening market listed at 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, but the day of the week is not settled in our sources (some list Thursday), so confirm the exact date before you drive. Both are in Fort Worth.

Two markets switch to an evening format in the hottest months rather than running evenings all season. The Downtown Mesquite Farmers Market runs 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in spring and fall and shifts to summer night markets at 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Urban Market in Garland lists a night market at 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM in July and August, with a different daytime schedule the rest of its season.

One more to treat carefully: the Terrell Heritage Market may shift to an evening format in summer, and its day of the week is not confirmed in our data. Call or check the museum before you make the drive.

## What an evening market is actually like

The most useful thing to know is that evening markets are short. Three hours is typical, against the four or five hours a Saturday morning market often runs. A market that opens at 6:00 PM and closes at 9:00 PM does not have a slow middle. If you arrive at 8:30 PM, you are shopping the last half hour.

They are also smaller in number and less frequent. Almost every evening market in the directory runs monthly or twice a month, not weekly. That single fact is the difference between a good trip and a wasted one.

The other real difference is heat. North Texas summer makes a midday outdoor market hard on both shoppers and produce, which is why several markets move to evenings in July and August rather than adding dates.

## Who an evening market suits

An evening market is the obvious answer if your Saturday mornings are already spoken for, by work, by kids' sports, or by anything else that starts at 8:00 AM. Almost all of the Saturday markets in DFW open between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and a large share close at noon.

It also suits anyone who would rather make the market an outing than an errand. A three-hour evening market on a downtown square is built to be walked slowly. If your goal is a full week of groceries, a longer Saturday market will usually serve you better.

## Before you go

Check the individual market page for the date, not just the day. First Friday, second and fourth Friday, and third Saturday are all in play, and a market that is open this Friday may not be open next Friday.
